We will try to keep everyone up to date on important meetings concerning the smelter on this page so check it frequently.
THIS COULD BE THE MOST IMPORTANT MEETING YET!
The meeting that we have been waiting for has been scheduled for March 16th at 3:00 pm at the Centennial Community Center in Wenden. We need to have as many people as possible attend this meeting and be prepared to tell the Supervisors their opinion of the smelter project. Hopefully, if we are effective and strong, this will go no further and die here.
IMPORTANT MEETING ON FEBRUARY 29TH FROM 12:00 TO 3:00 PM
On Saturday February 29th from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at the Centennial Community Center in Wenden you have an opportunity to meet the man who is responsible for selecting the site for the smelter and give him your feedback.
Mr. Loren Barton, VP for Alliance Metals and their sole employee, will be conducting an open house. He wants to explain the changes that they have committed to make in order to gain community support. Please attend and tell him your opinion of his aluminum smelter being located in our community.
Remember, even though they are attempting to make several changes, in the end this is still a heavy industrial facility, it will pollute, it will generate dangerous salt cake by products, it is located next to our wash, it will generate a tremendous amount of truck traffic, some of which will go directly through Wenden where we have cross walks for the kids from the school, and this type of operation was never intended for McMullen Valley.
PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING THIS IMPORTANT OPEN HOUSE. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS WHO MAY NOT BE ONLINE.
IMPORTANT UPDATE ON THE SUPERVISORS MEETING
Yesterday, Alliance Metals officially requested that the county cancel the Supervisors meeting for January 13th. This is only a postponement! The meeting will be rescheduled.
Alliance is apparently working on things that they can do in order to answer the communities concerns and to “help the supervisors in their further consideration of these docket items” so they have asked for more time. We don’t know if this will be a short delay or a long one. It seems that one of the things they are working on may require a new application to ADEQ. We’ll see.
Keep coming back to this page for updates. We will notify you when we have more information and a new meeting date!
-
This is not over!!! The next scheduled meeting for Alliance Metals application to the county is scheduled for January 13, 2020. It is scheduled to be held at the Centennial Community Center in Wenden. Please spread the word. We have been hearing from people that many think this is over and that when we won with the P&Z meeting, the deal was dead. That is not true. The final decision on Alliance will be made by the three District Supervisors. We still need to keep up the pressure!
- The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting where the zoning change request by Alliance Metals is scheduled to be a public hearing. It is currently scheduled for December 5th. The time and location is yet to be determined. We will keep you informed. The location of this meeting is at the Centennial Community Center in Wenden. The meeting time is 3:00 pm.
- The District Supervisor meeting that will be deciding on Alliance Metals future will be held on January 6th. It will most likely be held in Parker. We will keep you informed.
- This is very important. If you haven’t already done so and want to write a letter or email to the County it has to be in their hands by November 11th. If it is not received in time it will not be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission for them to consider it prior to their vote. If you need assistance just let us know and we will help.
